Richard S. Grossman Bio
Richard’s life journey is an enduring exploration of artistic expression and creative communication — blending curiosity, passion and entrepreneurial spirit with technical savvy and good old-fashioned know-how.
His career path has taken him from the theatrical stage to the concert stage; from the broadcasting studio to the recording studio; from the front of the post-secondary classroom to behind the administrator’s desk; and from post-production facilities to facilitating the communications needs of Fortune 500 corporations.
As a producer/engineer, sound designer, songwriter and composer, his work has been heard on major label recordings, radio and television, live theatre, corporate boardrooms and online over the past three decades.
As an entertainment industry entrepreneur, Richard established Mainstage Promotions in the early ‘80s as one of the leading artist management and college booking agencies in the US. His artist roster included comedian Louie Anderson. He also owned and operated Synctronix Recording and Production Studios during the “Purple Rain” boon, helping launch the career of MCA recording artist Giorge Pettus, among others. In 1985, Richard co-founded the indie record label and publishing company Crocus Hill Music, which he and his singer/songwriter wife, Madeleine Hart still operate today.
Richard has more than 20 years experience in higher education as a teacher and administrator. He managed Arts Education programs for both McNally Smith College and Hennepin Technical College. In the corporate arena, he has consulted for companies such as Traveler’s Insurance, 3M, American Express, Kodak and Banner Engineering. He served as Vice President of Marketing and Business Development for Advanced Communication Design and as Director of Media Services for North American Media Group, both based in his hometown of Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Richard firmly believes that knowledge empowers and is dedicated to helping people realize their full potential through improved communications. He has spent the better part of his life becoming a “born” communicator and knows from personal experience what that requires. He is at his best developing the personal presence and technical expertise of others.
Richard holds a Bachelor Degree in Organizational Management and Communications from Concordia University in Saint Paul, Minnesota along with various certifications and licenses, and is currently in the process of completing his Masters Degree in Organizational Leadership. He is also an active volunteer in non-profit community arts through his association with MAP (Map for Non-Profits).
